As part of obesity prevention plans governments have called for additional advertising restrictions:

UK: In 2019, Government consulted on a 9pm watershed for TV ads of products high in fat, salt and sugar (HFSS), and similar proposed measures online. See FDF response. Further Restrictions on Advertising ‘HFSS’ Food and Drink to Children: Final FDF Response
A Government response is expected May 2021.

The most recent Government obesity strategy  proposed a total online ban of HFSS advertising. The consultation closed in December 2020 and a Government response is expected in May 2021

Scotland: Proposal to limit advertising of HFSS products on public transport and within an 800m radius of schools. Timeframe to be confirmed.

Wales: Proposal to limit advertising of HFSS products on public transport and sporting events. Timeframe to be confirmed.

The Nutrient Profile model which determines which products are HFSS is under review. PHE consulted on an updated model in Spring 2018 but have not yet published a final model.
