Sustainable supply chains

Please see below a survey on decarbonisation in supply chains relating to support emissions reduction work from Efeca. Please note that the deadline for the survey is 16 November. FDF will be attending the Roundtable Meeting on 23 November.

“Ahead of the UKSCI Roundtable meeting this month, and following your feedback to us, we are pleased to share the following resources. This follows the  SBTi webinar from May this year, and we invite you to take part in a survey on how the UKSCI can support members on decarbonising supply chains.

• Survey: This 5-10 minute survey will be used to prioritise action and support over the next six months to support alignment and progress amongst the UKSCI’s members on reducing carbon emissions resulting from land use change in supply chains. There is a clear ask for support, but we are aware that everyone is at a different stage, so this survey explores what activities are being undertaken, if any; how they fit in with deforestation activities; and how companies are making use of the different support and guidance sets that are available. Please feel free to further share this survey to suppliers or other partners that could benefit from support from the UKSCI on this subject. Insights can be shared during the roundtable meeting..”

In May 2023, the EU passed a regulation to establish deforestation-free supply chains which will apply to a range of commodities when imported into the EU. 

The UK is developing its own policy, which aims to deliver the same outcomes but will place different requirements on businesses.

On 24 February, the FDF launched our Ambition 2025 Mid-term Review and Ambition 2025 Progress Report 2020 which was supported by a series of member case studies.

As highlighted in this year’s progress report, there has been exceptional progress in some areas, including:

• 55% reduction in CO2 emissions, five years before the target was due to be reached.
• 41.5% reduction in absolute water consumption in 2019 and support for the Courtauld 2025 Water Ambition.
• Contributed to the Food Waste Reduction Roadmap.
• Continued to build relationships with key stakeholders and with UK governments including through engagement on various the Plastics tax; undertook advocacy on PRN cost crisis; supported the UK Plastics Pact; and launched new guidelines on using recycled content in plastic packaging applications.
• Promoted the fewer and friendlier miles agenda through FDF’s 10 Point Checklist.
• Updated and promoted the Sustainability Resource Hub.
• Promoted the FDF Natural Capital Awareness Document.
